Over €6,000 was distributed to the winning schools at the awards presentation for the Troy Studios Post Primary Fittest Schools Challenge which took place at the No.1 Pery Hotel this week. This new initiative which is part of the Regeneron Great Limerick Run focuses on secondary schools participation in the event as well as students from these schools that volunteer at the event.

Ossie Kilkenny, the Director of Troy Studios presented the winning schools with their awards. Mr. Kilkenny gave a keynote address to the large crowd in attendance and generously doubled the prize fund of the competition. The €6.000 prize fund was divided between the winning schools Coláiste Chiarain (1st Place, €3.000), Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh (1st runner-up, €2.000) and Laurel Hill Secondary School (2nd runner-up, €1.000) who proved to be the fittest schools out of the 14 schools that took part.

The post-primary students that entered this competition were awarded a point per student that either crossed the finish line (6-mile run) on May 5th, 2019 or volunteered during the weekend. All students could enter the event at a reduced price of €18. To create a fair competition base among different size schools the winning schools were placed at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, based on a % ratio of students taking part. Colaiste Chiarain had an overall participation percentage of 9.6% of their student population.
