Ireland's 3rd largest mass participatory sporting event outside Dublin, the Bon Secours Hospital Great Limerick Run took place on 6th May 2018.
With over 13,000 competitors taking part, the streets and suburbs of Limerick came alive to the sounds of cheering spectators with words of encouragement as their friends or family members passed by.
The event is much more than a run, it is a major social event which brings clubs from St. Josephs Dorra Barefield, Ballybricken Scouts, Dooneen AC, Naomh Eoin GAA, Na Piarsaigh GAA, Catholic Institute, St. Michael's Rowing Club, Limerick Celtic Basketball Club, Mungret GAA, Garryowen Comhaltas, Prospect FC, together to fundraise through volunteering at the event.
Without these clubs and volunteers we could not make the event as successful as it is.
John Cleary, Race Director said at last night’s presentation, “We would like to thank all the club’s and their representatives for their continued support and time, and the Crescent Shopping Centre Limerick who are sponsors of the Volunteer programme.”
Grainne O Rourke, Marketing Manager at the Crescent Shopping Centre, “We are delighted that our support of the Bon Secours Hospital Great Limerick Run leads to a beneficial ripple effect for volunteering clubs and societies across Limerick City and County, and neighbouring areas. The sense of community created on race day by the volunteers is palpable, we are delighted to be part of that in some small way. Thank you to all the Volunteers who give so kindly of their time ”
Over €12,000 euro was handed out to various clubs at last night’s presentation.
