This year’s headline acts are:

  • Multi award-winning saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch and his trio play Dolan’s Upstairs at 10.30pm on Friday 22 Sept
  • The Dublin City Jazz Orchestra and guest vocalists play the Belltable at 8.00pm on Saturday 23rd Sept with a special programme entitled Independence Airs, featuring new arrangements of the most popular songs of 1917
  • Jazz-funk legends the James Taylor Quartet bring their high energy and high entertainment act to Dolan’s Warehouse on Saturday night at 10.30pm
  • One of the hottest live acts in Ireland The Booka Brass play Dolan’s Warehouse on Sunday 24 Sept at 2.30pm.

Once again Limerick Jazz Festival will have a very strong supporting programme of free events.

These including a late-night jazz trail across the city, kicking off the festival, on Thursday 21 September from 9.30pm, and daytime concerts and masterclasses in venues such as Ormston House, Chez le Fab and the Hunt Museum.

Speaking at the launch in Upstairs at Dolan’s John Daly from the Limerick Jazz Festival said “We are delighted to present a very attractive lineup for Limerick Jazz Festival 2017. Once again, we are presenting world-class Irish and international artists, and also highlighting the strength of our local jazz scene. Our ticket prices will be extremely good value and the great range of venues in Limerick will make for an unbeatable audience experience.”

Mayor of the Metropolitan District of Limerick Cllr Sean Lynch said: “Limerick Jazz Festival is now an established part of the city’s cultural calendar and we look forward to its continued development in the future as part of Limerick’s burgeoning culture offering.”

Sheila Deegan, Limerick Arts Officer added: “I love Jazz, it's like a good conversation, you're not sure where it began and where it will end. This year's Limerick Jazz Festival is full to the brim of opportunities to hear big sounds like the Booka Brass and the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra. The free Jazz Trail will be animating the city and this year the festival coincides with Culture Night so don't miss out on the free gig at Limerick City Gallery of Art with the Mysterious Mr. Valentine!”

“It’s wonderful that the award winning Soweto Kinch one of the most exciting and versatile young musicians in British Jazz and hip hop scenes will be part of the programme.”

Limerick Jazz Festival is promoted by the Limerick Jazz Society. It is supported by the Arts Council, Limerick City and County Council and Failte Ireland. The Festival is sponsored by Stellwagen Group, a leading Irish aviation financial services company.

Limerick Jazz Society is the longest continually active jazz society in Ireland and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2012 with the first Limerick Jazz Festival. Its regular spring and autumn seasons feature performances by leading international and Irish performers. Since 2007 it has also provided jazz education programs through Limerick Jazz Workshop, the only regular jazz workshop in Ireland outside Dublin and the International Vibes Workshop Summer School.
