With so much to do on and beside the River Shannon, family picnics, stroll or cycle the riverbank, or for the more adventurous, a range of family friendly water activities to choose from.

City Centre to University of Limerick Riverbank Cycle

This 3.25km shared walkway/cycleway weaves its way through a special area of conservation along the River Shannon from Limerick City centre to the University of Limerick campus. The perfect cycle for all the family to enjoy.

Limerick City Kayak Tours

Whether a local or a tourist to Limerick, you are sure to enjoy the unique experience of kayaking tours on the River Shannon. The Limerick City Kayaking Tours are quick, easy, safe and fun with a bit of history and fun facts about Limerick included! Adults, kids/teens (aged 6 years upwards), families and small to large groups are all catered for.

Castleconnell Playground & Fairy Woods

Set beside the River Shannon, this is a lovely playground with two interconnected areas for toddlers and older children. With seating and ample car parking available, a lovely spot to enjoy a picnic or a stroll.

After the boys and girls are finished having fun playing on the swings and slides why not take a walk along the river path. See if you can find the fairy village of colourful fairy houses, each with its own name.

Castleconnell Halloween Festival & The Scary Trail

The highlight of Castleconnell Halloween Festival is the Scary Trail which starts at the Ferry car park beside the children's playground and continues along the riverbank, where ghosts, goblins and witches lie in wait for what promises to be a scary Halloween night in the woods!

Foynes Flying Boat and Maritime Museum is a must see for families travelling along The Shannon Estuary Way. Travel back to the 1930s and ’40s, when Foynes played a pivotal role in establishing commercial transatlantic passenger flights Hop on board the only B314 flying boat replica in the world or challenge yourself to fly it in a realistic flight simulator.
