Case Study: Canteen, 26 Catherine Street

  • Canteen, Catherine Street - Paul Williams

A passion project for Paul Williams, Limerick’s Canteen has become one of the Georgian Quarter’s most popular cafés. Originally located on Mallow Street, Canteen is now housed in a bigger space on Catherine Street.

The original Georgian building was refurbished to accommodate a kitchen and an area for diners, and while the bones of the building have been kept, the cafe has a striking sense of space, light, and modernity.

People are seeing the real benefit of living in the city. They’re vibrant places to live.

Paul has said that the locals of the Catherine Street area are what drives his business - both as customers and as collaborators, and that the energetic, rejuvenated “vibe” of Limerick’s city centre makes a big difference.
