We introduce children to the wonderful sport of rowing! As they get older, we give them the opportunities to train and compete in one of the toughest water sports out there!

Desmond Rowing Club Askeaton is West-Limerick’s only rowing club! To celebrate this and to give you the chance to experience rowing for the first time, we would like to offer you a free ‘on the water’ taster session – simply get in touch with us below!

We introduce people from the age of 8 onwards to rowing using small stable boats called “Punts” – an approach that is truly unique to DRC! First, we take you through the basics on land and as soon as we can we’ll get you kitted out with a buoyancy aid and out on the river with an experienced oarsman to help show you the ropes!

Usually within 2 or 3 sessions everyone has developed the confidence and independence to go solo!

When children reach the age of 12, 13, 14 – The world of competitive rowing opens up to them! Rowing’s a tough sport, anyone who has rowed will tell you that! It requires a lot of discipline, commitment, grit and a lot of training! The positive impact it has on a young person and the growth they go through is truly amazing!

Desmond Rowing Club is also proud to say that we have a brilliant culture of parents getting involved and going for a row during the long summer evenings and we do offer adult memberships but it still all starts with that first step and taking advantage of one of our free taster sessions!
