Limerick Climbing Club

Interested in Hill-Walking and the Craic? Why not check out the Limerick Climbing Club. The club is primarily a hill-walking club and is affiliated with Mountaineering Ireland (MI).

The club's membership has steadily increased over the last number of years and currently has over 150 members. The club always welcomes new faces, to join refer to the check out our website www.limerickclimbingclub.ie page.

The club is a voluntary effort and members are encouraged to participate in the running of the club, attending mountain skills and leadership courses as well as participating in club events and the regular scheduled walks.

The club has three main types of hill-walking events:

Sunday Walks

The club runs walks every Sunday through out the winter months starting in October and ending in May/June. The walks vary in difficulty, pace and duration from easy through moderate to the difficult to suit most levels of walkers. The level of difficulty of the walk is noted on the walk schedule. New members should start off with an easy walk to get a feel for the level of fitness required for each level.

Wednesday Evening Walks

The Wednesday evening walks are run through out the summer and have been a great success. The walks start after work in May and end in September with the arrival of the shorter evenings. Each walk has an agreed meeting point, please check the Wednesday Walk schedule when it is posted at the beginning of the summer. These walks also vary in difficulty but are considerably shorter than the winter walks to ensure safe return before dark. There a great way to break-up the week.

Weekends Away

The club also organises a number of walking weekends away, sometimes coinciding with bank holidays weekends. The weekends are great way to get walks in to other mountain ranges further away from Limerick, areas not always possible to get to on the Sunday walks. Some of these weekends involve trips abroad and the club has successfully completed trips to the Alps and Scotland in the last two years. The weekends are also great social events.
