Mungret Regional FC

  • Mungret Regional FC 810 x 456

Mungret AFC was founded in 1971. Club Colours: The main Jersey colour is Black and Red, Black Shorts and Black Socks with red trim on top.

Mungret AFC was founded in 1971 when a team was entered to play in the Desmond League and home pitch was the Sports and Social Club grounds of Irish Cement.

In 1972 the County Council gave the Club the use of the pitch that it is still using today, and at that time the Club also had the use of the area that is currently used by the neighbouring GAA Club. In 1982, the Club purchased the plot on which the Clubhouse is sited today, the Clubhouse being opened in 1984.

The Clubhouse has since been completely redeveloped and now boasts modern top class facilites.

The 10 years from 1988 to 1998 were a purple patch for the Club on the field:

  • 1988 Premier League Champions
  • 1992 Munster Youths Cup Runners-up
  • 1994 Munster Junior Cup Winners
  • 1996 FAI Junior Cup Runners-up
  • 1997 Munster Junior Cup Runners-up

Numerous schoolboy trophies were also picked up over the years.

In 1997, the Club decided to convert the ground at the rear of the Clubhouse into an all-weather training area. Ground levels were raised, a fine-dust surface was laid and high netting and floodlights were installed.

During the 1990’s the Mungret Regional soccer nursery was started and now the Club has teams from under 7 to under 10 non-competitive and under-11 to under-16 schoolboys, plus junior mens and junior ladies teams.

2008-2009 has been a very successful season with the Junior Team winning promotionto the Premier League and many Schoolboy teams winning Leagues and Cups.
