Knockfierna

Steeped in local history and folklore, Knockfierna, or Cnoc Dhoinn Firinne, can be accessed by a number of tracks and pathways which start in Ballingarry.  From the top of the mountain you can see all of County Limerick and the Shannon Estuary.

As you ascend the mountain, you will pass a number of reconstructed cottages which were abandoned during the famine, as well as a famine memorial.

Knockfierna is a beautiful scenic location for a hike. The path (the red road) goes all the way to the top and makes it very accessible. From the top of Knockfierna you can see beyond Limerick to parts of Clare, Kerry, Tipperary and Cork aw well as great views of Thomond Park and other Limerick city landmarks.

The historic hill of Knockfierna (Cnoc Dhoinn Firinne) or "Truthful Hill" of truthful prediction, serves as a weather guide to the people within view of it, who can predict with a certainty whether the day will be wet or dry by the appearance of the summit in the morning. 

On the summit of the hill is Donn's Cave and cairn.
