Limerick Beekeepers Association is a voluntary organisation and affiliated to the Federation of Irish Beekeepers Associations (FIBKA). Founded in 1965 we currently have over a hundred members ranging in ages from 11 to 80 years of age.
Our aims are to promote beekeeping for everyone from the hobbyist to the serious professional, together with environmental awareness in our geographical area. In winter, association meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month in Mungret GAA Hall.
Great emphasis is placed on improving all members’ knowledge of beekeeping at all levels. Top lecturers from the FIBKA approved panel regularly attend educating in all aspects of beekeeping. The meetings provide a social outlet for members to meet and mingle, discuss all issues around beekeeping in the community over a cup of tea.
In June 2017 the association opened its new apiary in the Old Grounds of Mungret College kindly provided by Limerick County Council and supported by the Limerick Leader. The new apiary is central to the training, promoting and developing beekeeping in the county. The association has ambitious plans for 2018 to continually develop the apiary for its members and make it a training centre of excellence in all areas of beekeeping.
