Cllr Elena Secas

I am originally from Moldova now living in Limerick and I represent Limerick City East Electoral Area in the Metropolitan District. I was first elected to Limerick City and County Council in 2014 and re-elected again in 2019.

I entered politics so that I could in some way contribute to making Limerick a better place to visit, live, work and raise a family in. I don't always have all the answers, but I am working very hard and am trying my very best to get things done, to improve the quality of life in our community, and in our city.

I ran for local election in 2009 and did quite well as a first time candidate, only just missing out on being elected. I remained very active in local affairs and in 2014 I ran again. I was humbled to be elected for the first time to the newly amalgamated Limerick City and County Council, and I was re-elected in 2019.

I feel strongly about issues that matter to us all and I stand on my record of hard work in delivering improvements and enhancements to our community and to our city.

My core policy is to provide our community with a way to send our message from the ground directly into the Council Chamber, and to bring to the table a sense of priorities that values communities and families.

Statistics show that just over 50 percent of the population are women. Therefore, I think it is very important to have women’s perspectives represented in local and national government; to be able to influence and drive change which will lead to a more just and better society. To achieve that, we need more women in politics to advocate for women and the issues that affect them and participate in change.
