Clarification on proposals for the People’s Park

Limerick City and County Council wishes to clarify the situation in relation to proposals circulating for the People’s Park. The People’s Park is one of Limerick City’s greatest assets and public amenities and it is the Council’s intention that this remains. At this time we can confirm that Limerick City and County Council has no firm proposals for any changes in the People’s Park.

Scheme launched to allow people buy new starter homes at a discounted price in Limerick

Limerick City and County Council is piloting a new scheme which will allow people to buy new starter homes at a discounted price. The Incremental Purchase Scheme is targeted at working households currently in private rented accommodation who may be on HAP, RAS or social leasing. A new build home can be purchased at 40 - 60% discount depending on income band.

National Award for Limerick Students at Enterprise Finals

Students from Desmond College in Newcastle West have taken special merit prize in the very competitive senior category at the National Final of this year’s Student Enterprise Programme. The Finals of the Local Enterprise Office initiative were broadcast virtually from Croke Park with the Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Awards Ambassador Derval O’Rourke speaking.

Mayor welcomes the re-opening of non-essential retail across Limerick

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Michael Collins has today urged the people of Limerick to ‘support local’ as non-essential retail resumes for many businesses following the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions. Mayor Collins is encouraging Limerick people to think Limerick and shop local but also calling on all supporting them to adhere to social distancing guidelines, wear facemasks and be patient.

Green-fingered pupils at Ahane National School get thumbs up from Mayor

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Michael Collins, has officially opened the new biodiversity garden at Ahane National School in Laught, Lisnagry, Co Limerick. Mayor Collins was welcomed to the school and cut a recycled environmentally friendly ribbon made by the pupils of Second Class who were thrilled to have a VIP visiting their school.

Street closures and buildouts planned to support businesses in Limerick

Limerick City and County Council is proposing to close a number of streets in the City Centre at certain times to provide additional space for outdoor dining and socialising. A total of eight streets and laneways will be closed at specified times throughout the summer and autumn as part of the Council’s plans to support businesses, coinciding with the planned re-opening of the hospitality sector on 07 June 2021.

New adventures in learning as weeklong festival kicks off on 24 May

The Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival takes place from Monday 24 to 30 May, with the very timely theme of New Futures, New Adventures in Learning. The festival has grown over the past 11 years and this is the second time for it to be run as a virtual festival.

Over €400,000 for upgrade works on Limerick’s rural roads and laneways

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick has welcomed the allocation of over €400,000 for repairs and improvement works on non-public roads in rural communities across Limerick. Mayor Michael Collins was speaking following the government announcement of €10.5 million for the scheme nationally, €404,090 being allocated to Limerick.
