Extern Services in Limerick have been working in partnership with the HSE since 2004 providing programmes to meet the assesssed needs of children and young people.
The service aims to offer programmes that are flexible, community based and targeted at supporting children and young people most in need, assisting in their development and providing individual support to underpin their current living arrangements.
extern operates a number of services in Limerick including:
Extern Bail Supervision Scheme
The bail supervision scheme offers courts with an alternative option to detaining a young person by offering them the possibility of granting bail with intensive supervision.
By reducing the need for remand places, this also provides an opportunity to focus on developing successful community resources designed to prevent young people being detained in a youth justice facility and preventing them from further entering down the path of criminality.
Extern Outreach Support Service
Extern Outreach Support Service (EOSS) is in operation since May 2018. At Extern we believe supports should evolve as an individual’s needs change and they move forward with their lives. We aim to support individuals to be independent and become active members of their community.
In partnership with the HSE Disability Services we encourage people to have a voice and a say in their service so that their immediate and long terms needs can be addressed. The EOSS in partnership with the HSE Disability Services work with people with a disability and/or autism or who may find it challenging to integrate into traditional social, educational or community systems.
EOSS is aligned with the HSE New Directions Principles, such as person centeredness, community inclusion and active citizenship. The programme supports individuals to identify areas of potential growth that they would like to explore; a key worker will help them identify steps to achieve these goals in a collaborative way.
Extern Time Out
The Time Out Service meets the needs of service users and their families by providing respite of up to a4 day (two to three over nights) intervention in response to crisis/ need at an Extern approved facility .
The Time Out service works in close partnership with statutory agencies, community resources and the young person’s family. Overnights are provided in both Emergency and planned situations.
