Brendan & Martin Mulvihill Traditional Music Week

Tuesday 27th October - Saturday 31st October
  • Glin Trad Week - Brendan Mulvihill

An immersive festival honoring the enduring legacy of Father and Son Irish Traditional Music Icons Brendan and Martin Mulvihill. The week features master-level music and dance classes, midday concerts, nightly sessions across local pubs, history walks, and a dedicated fiddle legacy competition.

Featured headliners, instructors, and performers include US National Heritage Fellows Billy McComiskey and Donna Long, and renowned fiddler Jesse Smith, alongside TG4 Traditional Musicians of the Year Catherine McEvoy, Angelina Carberry, Laoise Kelly, and Derek Hickey and many others.

The first annual Brendan and Martin Mulvihill Legacy Fiddle Competition will be held on Saturday 31st October.

The Martin & Brendan Fiddle Legacy Competition is open to fiddlers aged 14 to 21 and features cash prizes for the top three winners.

  • Introduction to Traditional Music, Dance and Culture for ages 6-12 | 11.30am – 12.30pm | Old Time Jug Band Instruments and Dancing with Emily and Elora Martin, and Dances Jan and Kim.
  • Free Midday Concert | 1.30pm | Shaughnessy’s Pub | Ceol sa Chlann with Walsh and Morrow sisters.
  • Afternoon Workshop | 3-4pm | Billy McComiskey - East Coast and a Lifetime of Other Masters and Shannon Dunne- Sean-nós Dance for all ages and levels.

  • Twilight Concert | 4.30pm – 6pm | ‍The Living Heritage of West Limerick Music: Pa Foley and Friends in Conversation with Gabriel Fitzmaurice.

  • Free Midday Concert | 1.30pm | Shaughnessy’s Pub | Gerald Culhane, Matthew Reidy, Patsy Broderick and Joe O’Sullivan.
  • Afternoon Workshop | 3-4pm | Emily Martin - Old Time Tunes, Cleek Shrey - East Coast Repertoire and Social Dancing.
  • Castle Walking Tour | 2.45pm – 4.15pm
  • Twilight Concert | 4.30pm – 6pm | The Legacy of Martin Mulvihill: A Journey with Gabriel Fitzmaurice, Donal O’Sullivan, Willie Kelly, and Donna Long with guest artist Caoimhín Ó Fearghail.

  • Morning Dance Workshop | 10am -12.30pm | Daily workshop focusing on steps of Jerry Mulvihill (Molyneaux Style)
  • Introduction to Traditional Music, Dance and Culture for ages 6-12 | 11.30am – 12.30pm | Music Without Instruments - Whistling, Lilting and Singing with Anita Bennis and Eibhlin Broderick.
  • Free Midday Concert | 1.30pm | Shaughnessy’s Pub | American Old-Time featuring Emily Martin, Josh Henderson, Elora Martin and Cleek Schrey.
  • Afternoon Workshop | 2.45pm - 4.15pm | Anita Bennis- Whistling Walk, weather permitting, Patsy Maloney - West Limerick and Birmingham, Willie Kelly - New York Repertoire and Set Dancing (Called).
  • Twilight Concert | 4.30pm – 6pm | ‍ ‍Sharing the Stage and Learning from Brendan Mulvihill:  ‍An Afternoon of Conversation, Music, and Dance with Billy McComiskey, Donna Long, Emily Martin, Shannon Dunne, and Cleek Schrey – Guided by Billy Keane.

  • Afternoon Workshop | 3-4pm | Laoise Kelly - Mayo and Harp tunes, Catherine McEvoy -Birmingham and Roscommon and Jesse Smith - Donegal and East Coast (US).

  • The Grand Transatlantic Finale: Masters of String & Box | 6pm – 9pm | ‍ An Exceptional Concert Sequence and All-Star Gathering featuring Laoise Kelly, Billy McComiskey, Donna Long & Cleek Schrey, Jesse Smith & Donna Long, Willie Kelly & Siobhán Kelly and the Grand Finale.
