Georgian Limerick Homes

Limerick City and County Council is undertaking two housing projects on Council-owned sites in the City Centre, at 33/34 Thomas Street and 58 O’Connell Street.

The aim is to reduce vacancy and dereliction, while also providing affordable, long-term homes for people, along with high levels of energy efficiency.

Georgian Limerick Homes - 58 O'Connell Street

58 O’Connell Street

It is proposed to refurbish the historic townhouse at No.58 O’Connell Street and add an additional storey at roof level. This building once housed the county library.

The upper floors of the building will contain apartments, while the ground and basement levels will be for commercial, not-for-profit or community uses.

It is proposed to refurbish and extend the building located at the rear of No.58 O’Connell Street which faces onto the laneways. It will contain apartments on the upper levels and storage spaces at ground level. Narrative 4 are tenants at ground level of the townhouse building. All other parts of the buildings are vacant.

33/34 Thomas Street

It is proposed to refurbish the historic townhouse at No.33 Thomas Street and extend it into the courtyard to the rear, with apartments at all levels.

It is proposed to replace No.34 Thomas Street with a new building and courtyard. The upper levels will contain apartments and roof terraces. The ground floor will contain a mix of residential and storage/ ancillary space for the residents, as well a space which will be either commercial, not-for-profit or community space.

Both buildings are currently vacant.

The proposals are currently in the design stages. It is expected that the planning process for the two projects will commence by the end of 2021.
