Limerick Seniors Forum

  • Limerick Seniors Forum

The Limerick Seniors Forum is a forum of older people in Limerick city and county who have come together to voice their concerns about issues affecting their everyday lives.

The Forum aims to represent the needs, issues and potential of older people in Limerick through the co-ordination of local resources and structures and the empowerment of older people to represent their own interests. It acts as a vehicle for advocacy, but as a mechanism for peer support and further empowerment. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month in City Hall.

Limerick Seniors Forum was established in 2012 and is composed of approximately 36 members representing 21 various older persons groups from across Limerick City and suburbs, including community groups, active retirement and probus groups. Our overall aim is to promote active citizenship among older people (55+) by strengthening older persons’ capacity to advocate and engage with decision makers.

Limerick Seniors Forum has worked to lay a solid foundation in Limerick that will encourage older citizens to participate and engage in civic life. Steps have been taken to ensure social inclusion. The enthusiasm and involvement in Limerick Seniors Forum illustrates the willingness of older people in Limerick to build a professional relationship with state and statutory bodies in an effort to create a secure, friendly and stable environment in Limerick for people to grow old in.
