Breathe in the fresh air, leave the hustle behind, and let the rhythm of nature set your pace. Limerick Greenway is your weekend (or midweek) ticket to a slower, more mindful way of travelling - whether you’re cycling through historic viaducts, sipping coffee at cosy cafés, or glamping under the stars.

This two-day adventure is designed to help you unwind, reconnect with nature, and explore authentic rural Ireland, all at your own pace. It’s perfect for active adults who want to escape the noise, stretch their legs, and enjoy good food, good company, and plenty of wide-open space.

Greenway Glamping

Day 1: Friday – Arrive, Unplug & Settle into Glamping Bliss

Where to Stay: Welcome to West Limerick! After your drive through the lush countryside, check into your weekend home: the Greenway Glamping Pod in Templeglantine - a luxury escape with everything you need to chill out in comfort. Think en-suite bathroom, mini kitchen, heating, WiFi, and countryside views that will make your phone’s camera work overtime.

The Finch Pod is your cosy base - perched right in the heart of Limerick Greenway, giving you direct access to the mid-point of this 40km trail. Whether you’re here to pedal, picnic, or just pause, this is your haven.

Check-in: Grainne, your lovely host, has left your key in a nearby lockbox - details will follow closer to your stay. Grainne might also pop by for a quick hello and to share how Greenway Glamping has grown from a dream into a must-stay hideaway.

This is your first evening to relax, breathe deeply, and maybe take a sunset stroll along Limerick Greenway - or just kick back with a glass of something in hand and enjoy the views.

Day 2: Saturday – Bikes, Barnagh & a Bit of Buzz

11am – Breakfast at Platform 22 Café

Wake up slow, then roll over to Barnagh Greenway Hub for a hearty breakfast at Platform 22. It’s the perfect fuel-up spot with local ingredients, sweet treats, and panoramic countryside views. Grab a coffee, settle into a cosy seat, and chat with Olive, the café’s owner, about how this peaceful pit stop came to life.

After breakfast, head downstairs to meet Eamonn and Aoife from Locomotion. They'll set you up with bikes, helmets, locks and a quick safety demo — then you're off on your Limerick Greenway ride!

Your Cycle Route: Barnagh ➡ Newcastle West (Round Trip ~20km)

This stretch is scenic, peaceful, and made for camera stops:

  • Ferguson’s Viaduct – A cast-iron beauty from the railway era.
  • Barnagh Tunnel – A 115m tunnel with just the right amount of mystery.
  • Barnagh Viewing Point – Climb a short path above the hub for sweeping views of Clare, Cork and Kerry.

Cycle at your own pace and take as many detours or breathers as you like.

2pm – Explore Newcastle West & Refuel at Sonas Café

Park your bikes at Bishop Court and take a short walk into Newcastle West, Limerick’s largest town.

  • Sit down at Sonas Café and try some of the local treats that Rosemarie and her team have to offer with something for everyone. Sonas Café provides vegetarian and gluten free options also.
  • Pop into nearby boutiques or stroll through Desmond Castle and Castle Demesne Park.

Take your time — no need to rush. When you’re ready, cycle back to Barnagh Hub to drop off your bikes.

Evening – Dinner & Chill at Devon Inn Hotel, Templeglantine

After freshening up at your Greenway Glamping pod, it’s time to treat yourselves to a relaxed dinner at the Devon Inn — just a few minutes’ drive away.

Enjoy comfort food, local flavours and a warm welcome from owners William and Mary.
