Up to 35 new jobs to be created in Moyross

The decision by international food retailer Iceland to open its first Limerick store in Watch House Cross in Moyross, proves that the climate is right for private sector investment into one of Limerick’s regeneration areas.

Iceland has said it will create up to 35 new positions in Moyross when it opens its branch later this year, as they take over the premises left vacant by Eurospar in 2015.

The Limerick store is one of nine stores opening around the country as part of Iceland’s expansion.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon welcomed the decision: “The news that Iceland is to open one of its new stores in Moyross is a significant vote of confidence in the area. Staff on the regeneration project in Limerick City and County Council are working hard to create the right climate for private investment into Moyross and other areas.”

“The announcement of Iceland proves that projects funded under the Limerick Regeneration Framework Implementation Plan are working and these areas are now showing signs of recovery and are becoming areas of interest for private investors.”

Carmel Kirby, Director of Social Development with Limerick City and County Council, who is responsible for regeneration said: “The efforts of staff, working in partnership with the community in Moyross are paying off. The economic pillar of the Limerick Regeneration Framework Implementation Plan is a multi-pronged approach to improving the quality of life for local people through increased investment and job creation.”

“35 new jobs in Moyross can only be good for the community, and Limerick City and County Council will continue to work hard to improve the area’s prospects into the future.” “This latest news coupled with the €3 million expansion plans for the Moyross Enterprise Centre means that there are even more opportunities available for local people.”
