Mayor of Limerick opens online book of condolence for murdered journalist Lyra McKee

An online Book of Condolence has been opened by the Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr James Collins for murdered journalist Lyra McKee.

Mayor James Collins said the thoughts and prayers of the people of Limerick are with her family and friends as they come to terms with the attack on a young woman who was doing her job.

“On behalf of the people of Limerick I would like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of Lyra.”

“The outpouring of grief and of revulsion at her murder just goes to show how important peace is to the ordinary people of Northern Ireland and that it won’t be hijacked by a group which has no standing moral or otherwise for communities across the country.”

“I hope this attack will further galvanise those who long for a lasting peace in Northern Ireland and put pressure on the political parties to work together for justice and peace.”

“As a mark of respect I have instructed that an online book of condolence be opened by Limerick City and County Council,” the Mayor added.

The book of condolence can be accessed on Limerick.ie at this link - https://www.limerick.ie/council/your-council/book-condolence-lyra-mckee

The book will remain open for one week.
