The Limerick Arts Office has announced it is now seeking applications from individual artists or organisations under the Grants Under The Arts Act scheme.

The annual scheme offers grant funding to amateur, community or voluntary groups, or organisations, and individual arts practitioners who stimulate public interest in the arts, promote the knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts or assist in improving the standards of the arts.

All Grants under the Arts applications will be considered by an independent selection panel, appointed by the Arts Office of Limerick City and County Council.   The selection panel will meet to assess and make recommendations on all eligible applications. Their recommendations will then go before a Limerick City and County Council Meeting for approval.

The closing date for applications is 5 pm, Friday 5th February 2016. A list of successful applicants will be published on www.limerick.ie.

"In the Grants Under The Arts Act, the arts are defined as painting, sculpture, architecture, music, film, drama, dance, literature, design in industry and the fine arts and applied arts generally. The awards can be used for the professional development of artists, the arts and/or increasing access and participation in the arts," explained Sheila Deegan, Arts and Culture Officer.

"Limerick City and County Council will consider applicants who are either based in Limerick or who operate substantially within Limerick City and County. Arts and Culture are a key part of how Limerick is transforming. The creative pooling of energy, vision, passion and innovation shown during Limerick City of Culture 2014 and the Limerick 2020 bid process has enhanced our already solid reputation for arts and culture. We look forward to the range of applications" she added.

Grant applications forms are available from the Limerick Arts Office, Merchant’s Quay, Email: artsoffice@limerick.ie, Phone: 061 557363 / 061 557421.
