The 'Pilgrim Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help' Pilgrimage to the cathedrals of Ireland started its journey from The Redemptorists last evening (Monday 4th April 2016) to St John’s Cathedral. The Redemptorists and St John’s Cathedral are celebrating 150 years of devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Pope Francis blessed the Pilgrim Icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help on March 23rd before its journey to Ireland.

Hundreds of people gathered in the Redemptorists Church where the Papal Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Charles Brown, in the presence of the Bishop of Limerick, Bishop Brendan Leahy, Bishop Donal Murray, Bishop Emeritus, Fr. Seamus Enright, the Rector of Mount St Alphonsus, Redemptorist Priests and Brothers along with priests from the Limerick Diocese and the surrounding Dioceses led the opening celebrations and Liturgy.

This was followed by a procession through the streets of Limerick, stopping at the Augustinian Church in O’Connell Street before continuing to St. John’s Cathedral where the Papal Nuncio was the chief Celebrant of a concelebrated Mass to start an All Night Vigil of Prayer in the Cathedral.

The Icon will continue the pilgrimage to all 26 Cathedrals in Ireland and Redemptorist houses throughout the season of Easter concluding on the feast of Pentecost April 15th in Clonard Monastery Belfast.
