Limerick School of Art & Design Hat-trick at the Triumph Inspiration Awards!

Limerick School of Art & Design played a hat-trick at the Irish Final of the Triumph Inspiration Awards which took place in Brown Thomas Dublin last night! The 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in this prestigious student design competition went to students of the college.

2011-04-07: Twenty year old Sarah Ryan from Midleton in Cork was named winner of a prestigious student lingerie design competition, The Triumph Inspiration Awards, which took place in Brown Thomas Dublin last night.

The second year student from the Limerick School of Art & Design was thrilled to be announced winner with her fantastic design named ‘The Edge of Euphoria’. Sarah will go on to represent Ireland at the global final of the Triumph Inspiration Awards in Berlin this July.

Nineteen year old design student Stephen Foley from Beaufort in Kerry won second place in the competition with his design ‘Why do dishes when you can do daiquiri?’, while twenty three year old Ukrainian student Svitlana Andriyets won third prize with her design called ‘Feline Fantasy’.

Both Stephen and Svitlana are also from the Limerick School of Art & Design, making it a hat-trick!

Brown Thomas Dublin was delighted to host last nights Irish National Final of the Triumph Inspiration Awards 2011. Nineteen fashion students from the Limerick School of Art & Design and Griffith College Dublin took part in the prestigious design competition, which was judged by Celebrity Stylist and acclaimed TV Personality Brix Smith Start; Brown Thomas Lingerie Buyer, Mary Mullin; Triumph Head of Marketing, Purminder Mondair and Sunday Independent Columnist, Triona McCarthy.

Dapper British Radio and TV Presenter George Lamb also acted as MC on the evening, which was attended by family and friends of the competing design students, as well as Sonya Lennon and Brendan Courtney from Off the Rails, stylish bloggers Emily O’Donnell, Caroline Barry and Laura Whiston and Social & Personal Fashion Editor Jessica Whyte. Brown Thomas Managing Director Stephen Sealey and Dublin Store Manager Mark Limby were on hand to oversee the evening’s proceedings.

2011 is a special year for Triumph as it marks its 125th anniversary. In celebration of this, Triumph International, which is one of the world’s leading lingerie and shapewear brands, invited these young design students to compete in this unique design competition - the Triumph Inspiration Awards, which is now in its fourth year. Triumph challenged the fashion students to prove their creativity and expertise to design a ‘catwalk showpiece’ to represent the design theme 125 Years of Celebrating Women”.

The Triumph Inspiration Awards curates the most innovative and inspirational lingerie designs and provides a prestigious platform to showcase them in front of national, consumer, and trade press, along with industry professionals.

Sarah will now compete against 36 other national finalists for the global title in Berlin in July 2011. In addition to potentially providing the launch pad for a successful design career, the international winner, aided by Triumph’s design team in Hong Kong, will have the opportunity of turning their showpiece into a commercial product, available as a limited edition in selected Triumph stores worldwide for the Spring Summer 2012 season.

Design Name: The Edge of Euphoria

Inspiration: Studying the mantra of the female mind in the early 1970’s, the constant strive for personal freedom and a euphoric sense of being was inherent in each free spirit. Undoubtedly in command of her sexuality, I was inspired by the woman who in the height of the grit of Rock and Roll could retain her powerful, yet ultimately and intensely, sensual inner nature.

Design Name: Why Do Dishes When You Can Do Daiquiri?

Inspiration: I was inspired by 1950’s lingerie. I wanted to create an underwear set that would allow women to indulge in delightful thoughts while carrying out their daily routine, giving them something to inspire and amuse themselves.

Inspiration: Inspired by a 1950’s silhouette. - I wanted to create a seductive combination that empowers the naughty flirt in every woman.
