New Gavin Hogg Exhibition ‘Laced Inspirations’ opening at Limerick Museum

A collagraph print is made by gluing different materials to cardboard and creating a kind of collage.

Gavin Hogg studied in Limerick School of Art and Design from 1983-87, going on to complete a Master’s Degree in Birmingham in 1988. He has exhibited widely, won numerous awards and achieved wide critical appreciation for his work.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell said: 

“It is no surprise that Gavin Hogg has been inspired by Limerick lace, as he is a Limerick man born and bred, and an artist of vast experience. Indeed, he has been a practicing artist for an impressive 35 years. Gavin’s work is included in many public and private collections, nationally and internationally. He has a studio in Limerick city where he continues to explore the possibilities of painting, print and collaborative projects.” 

Limerick Museum’s collection of Limerick lace is the largest collection of Limerick lace in existence.

Gavin Hogg commented:

“There is an obvious analogy between Limerick lace and traditional art processes. Print, as a traditional process, is an apt medium with which to work imaginative explorations of the forms and patterns present in the lace pieces.”

Dr Matthew Potter, Curator of Limerick Museum says they were delighted to be approached by the artist:  

“Here in Limerick Museum, we are so proud of our Limerick lace collection that when an artist of Gavin’s reputation and experience proposed an exhibition that would respond to the collection, we immediately agreed to host it.”

Laced Inspirations continues in Limerick Museum until the 23rd of November.

Limerick Museum is situated in the Old Franciscan Friary on Henry Street, next door to Dunnes Stores. The Museum is open to the public Monday to Friday 10.00am to 5.00pm; Saturday 10.00am-1.00pm and 2.00pm to 5.00pm. Admission is FREE.
