Limerick City and County Council is part of the ground-breaking +CityxChange (Positive City ExChange) project which has been granted funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme in the call for ‘Smart cities and communities’.

Limerick was the European Green Leaf City for 2020. 

This project seeks to develop a number of exciting new elements including marine product innovation, environmentally sustainable marine tourism, inshore and sea-going navigation aids, port information points and marine tourism itineraries.

This project has completed a study to catalogue Limerick’s heritage along the River Shannon, and is now in the process of developing conservation and management plans to not only protect the most at-risk sites, but to bring value to them as tourism assets.
