RESCHEDULED: Orient & Occident

Sunday 7th March @ 3pm
  • Orient and Occident

This event was originally due to be held on 29th March 2020 but is rescheduled to 7th March 2021.

Fazil Say is a virtuosic Turkish pianist and prolific composer, with a passion for Mozart. His Silk Road is an exotic and extraordinary musical journey across Tibet, India Mesopotamia and Turkey: the fabled trade route.

Mozart’s Zaide explored the popular theme of Turkish pirates and Christian slaves. Anna Devin sings one of Zaide’s most beautiful arias, Ruhe sanft, mein holdes Leben” to her would-be-lover, Gomatz.  In Black Earth, Say combines the song of a people with elements of the terrain – his music digs deep into soil and history.

Mozart’s Ch’io mi schordi di te (with piano obbligato) is one of his finest concert arias.  The ICO provides the colourful framework in Say’s dramatic and passionate Goethe Songs, settings of poems from the cycle West-Eastern Divan, where Occident meets Orient – a brilliant showcase for Anna Devin’s flexible and brilliant vocals.

Finally, Mozart’s playful Concerto in A major brims with lyricism and rich melodic texture emulating his idol, J.C. Bach.

Presented by the Irish Chamber Orchestra with Director/Piano Fazil Say, Director/Violin Katherine Hunka and Soprano Anna Devin.
