Throughout the months of September and October, Limerick will play host to a number of unique festivals and events that will be of particular interest to friends and family who have a connection with or an interest in Ireland. The Global Irish Festivals series offers all the perfect reason to come home and visit The Wild Atlantic Way this Autumn.
Some 70 million people around the world claim to have Irish roots and many of them enjoy tracing those roots while holidaying in the home country each year. Many more of our fellow country men and women have left for pastures new in recent years and they too look forward to ‘coming home’ on holiday.
In Limerick, the Global Irish Festival Series celebrates Limerick’s growing reputation as an exciting festival and cultural hub with the Richard Harris International Film Festival and Pigtown Food and Culture Series. Richard Harris International Film Festival was born to celebrate the unique talent of Richard Harris, in the city where he was born and raised. The festival showcases the work of young filmmakers from Ireland and across the world, including the Irish Diaspora, as well as poets, singers and writers.
Pigtown is Limerick’s newest festival, inspired by the history of Limerick’s renowned bacon industry which was made famous by Queen Victoria insisting on 'Limerick ham' for her Christmas dinner. Pigtown is a 3-week celebration of themed food and cultural events, tours , trails and the annual Pigtown Parade on the streets of Limerick.
During the entire months of September and October, Limerick will be en fête with additional entertainment, street decoration and special food experiences as we welcome home friends and family – we look forward to seeing you!
