10 fun and free things to do for families at Limerick's Culture Night

Culture Night is back! This Friday 23rd September, Limerick's artists and cultural organisations will host an exciting programme of live events for young and old to enjoy. You can expect an evening brimming with free fun and activities - music, dance, arts and crafts, walks and much, much more!

Here are our picks for some of the best things to do if you bring your kids to town on Friday.

1. Fidget Feet & Cirkoactivo | The Potato Market | 4pm & 6pm

Chilean circus artists Cirkoactivo will bring their portable aerial rig to the street for an exciting performance recreating the story of two children who fall in love. This will be followed by Fidget Feet's A Handful of Dreams, an Irish explosion of music, dance, and aerial with an electric ensemble of 5 aerial dancers and 2 live musicians.

Friday 23rd September @ 4pm & 6pm | Saturday 24th September @ 2pm & 5pm

2. Limerick Milk Market | Cornmarket Row | 4pm - 8pm

Enjoy the sumptuous food offering at Limerick Milk Market along with live music, art, face painting, mask making and mobile petting zoo.

3. Pigtown Pig Parade | Bedford Row | 6pm - 7pm

Gathering in Bedford Row at 6pm with face-painting and fun activites, everyone is invited to come along and join in the parade through the streets of Limerick City. Kiddies are encouraged to bring their little piggies along– if you have toy pigs, from stuffed ones to Peppa or Toy Story’s Ham, why not bring them along to march in the parade together!

4. Sound & Vision | The Hunt Museum | 3pm - 10pm

At the Hunt Museum, kids can learn about and play with technologies such as robotics, internet of things, sensors and more! Don't miss Truffles the Treasure Hunting Pig, a brand new Limerick game using objects from the Limerick City Gallery of Art, the Limerick City Museum and the Hunt Museum for ages 7 and up. And our favourite god.. Apollo…will be boogieing in his Alternative Reality form alongside a chance to revisit Ride a Flying Fish using VR Headsets.

5. Fab Lab Open Night | UL City Campus, Sarsfield Street | 5.30pm to 9pm

Adults and children, artists and technologists, students and professionals…everyone is welcome to come to come along to Fab Lab and take part in demos and learn how to get started on 3D printing, laser cutting and Electronics!

6. Limerick Printmakers | John's Square | 5pm - 9pm

An established favourite on the Culture Night trail, Limerick Printmakers will be encouraging children of all ages to try their hand at various printmaking activities, led by talented studio members. Grab a roller, make a print & join the madness! 

5pm & 7pm children's printmaking activities | 5pm - 9pm silkscreen printmaking for all ages.

A dedicated chill time for kids and families will take place to support parents and/or children who may benefit from a calmer, less populated space for any reason. Between 5pm and 6pm (5pm - 5.30pm and 5.30pm - 6pm) there will be no music, no/low lighting, more seating, more helpers, and more space aimed to contribute to an enjoyable experience for everyone. Chill time must be pre-booked by emailing limerickprintmakers@gmail.com.

7. Music Generation | Bedford Row | 6.30pm - 9pm

Bedford Row will be a hive of activity on Culture Night with performances by Limerick Music Generation throughout the evening.

8. Crafting and having fun together | Citizens Information Service, Henry Street | 4pm - 5.45pm

Delivered in Ukrainian & English, these fun arts and crafts workshops will be facilitated by the lovely Liubov, who has recently arrived from Mariupol in Ukraine.

Session 1: Time: 4pm-4.45pm for 6-9years | Session 2: Time: 5.00pm-5.45pm- 10-12years

9. Three Bridges Walking Tour | Merchant's Quay | 7pm

Clancy Strand Limerick

Join the Limerick Pedestrian Network and Limerick Cycle Bus for a cultural tour of the Three Bridges Walk. Celebrating the significance of the Walk for the people of Limerick City, the group will stroll together along the route as the sun goes down and the river is lit up by lights. With reflections from local historians and music by Emma Langford, all are welcome on foot, bike, scooter, wheelchair, buggy... see you there! 

10. Mixed Movement Limerick | Wickham Way Market | 7pm - 8.45pm

Mixed Movement Meetup Limerick

An exciting and lively movement performance of various disciplines across dance, martial arts, flow arts, acrobatics and acro yoga will further enhance the buzzing atmosphere at the Wickham Way. This is the perfect spot to grab some street food to refuel for more Culture Night exploring!
