From a Michelin Guide star recipient to those places that consistently top the “Best Of” lists, check out our best of the best and head straight for these critically acclaimed eating establishments in Limerick – and see what all the buzz is about for yourself!

1. The Oak Room, Adare Manor

The Michelin Guide claims that Head Chef, Michael Tweedie’s “assured, refreshingly understated modern cooking champions top ingredients from Ireland’s artisan producers, and… the resulting combinations are refined and well-balanced, with complex flavours and great attention to detail”. 

This is the pinnacle of fine dining in Limerick. An innovative mix of tasting menus and theatre makes it no surprise that Adare Manor’s flagship dining experience is a Michelin Guide Star recipient.

2. Donkey Fords, Broad Street, Limerick

From blowout to budget, this Limerick institution has to be experienced to be believed. A previous recipient of “Today FM’s Best Chipper in Ireland”, Donkey Fords consistently ranks among not only Limerick’s top take outs but the rest of the country’s too. 

Don’t forget a battered sausage! 

3. The French Table, Steamboat Quay, Limerick

Since opening in 2008, the French Table has gone from strength to strength, quickly becoming recognised and awarded as one of Limerick’s best and most consistent restaurants by diners and critics alike, and renowned for its authentic Gallic cuisine.

4. Freddy’s Restaurant, Post Office Lane, Limerick

Freddy’s Restaurant, formerly Freddy’s Bistro, located in a beautifully restored 19th Century building on Post Office Lane, has been voted by the Epicurean World Master Chef Society as the Best Restaurant in Limerick and one of the top hundred best restaurants in Ireland by The Bridgestone Guide, based upon their excellent standards of food, ambience and service.

5. 1826 Adare, Adare

A Michelin Bib Gourmand award winner, run by one of Ireland’s best regarded chefs, Wade Murphy and his wife Elaine; 1826 specialises in locally sourced produce presented in a modern, creative and casual style. The cooking is serious and ambitious but the food is delivered without pretension. 

6. The Curragower Bar and Restaurant, Clancy Strand, Limerick

One of Limerick’s oldest and best loved pubs, and previous recipient of the Irish Restaurant Awards, Best Gastro Pub award (among other accolades); The Curragower offers delicious food and a wide selection of drinks in a relaxed, cosy and friendly setting.  

An order of the Curragower’s famous chicken wings? Mandatory.

7. Cornstore, Thomas Street, Limerick

Having won the Munster Kids Size Me award, a joint initiative by the RAI and the Nutrition and Health Foundation twice before - the Cornstore, a warm and buzzy dining room right in the heart of the city is the perfect spot for big and little diners alike.

Steaks and seafood are the specialities but their cocktail and dessert menus are very hard to resist! 

8. The Long Room, No. 1 Pery Square, Limerick

Recommended by Georgina Campbell’s Ireland Guide, The Long Room, which opened in 2019 alongside the more established Sash Restaurant, showcases an innovative locally sourced menu and stunning surroundings that exude comfort, elegance and relaxation.

9. Canteen, Catherine Street, Limerick

A firm favourite of John and Sally McKenna’s ‘Best in Ireland’ Guides, Canteen serves “unpretentious food that is always reliable and inexpensive food that is classy food”. Whether you’re after breakfast, lunch, coffee or cake, the wide variety of delicious menu options, will keep you coming back for more, time and time again.

10. The Mustard Seed at Echo Lodge, Ballingarry

The Mustard Seed is so highly commended that it is difficult to list the many awards it has received over the years. Its incredible and imaginative food, produced by Chef Angel Pirev and impeccable service, led by owner John Edward Joyce, attracts both locals and international visitors alike to this destination restaurant and hotel located in the heart of Limerick countryside.
