Shannon Aviation Museum
Our aviation museum is open to groups and individuals all year round.Learn about Shannon Airport’s unique history and contribution to global aviation. See the timeless voices of Irish Aviation, an aural history of some of the characters that developed and pioneered Irish Aviation. Exhibits include a BAC 1-11 cockpit and fuselage section, this aircraft was retired in 2000 after a long service and is now repainted in its original 1969 BAE livery. Also on view is a BAe 146 flight simulator project in work, as well as various aircraft parts such as Phantom F4 rudder. See and learn about Jet Engines, on display Rolls Royce Avon and Conway engines, Step back in time to view historical Celestial Navigation instruments used in 1940’s, and a great collection of memorabilia and artifacts.
Flight Simulation Experiences
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly a jet airliner? Experience Flight on a full scale Boeing 737-800 Flight Simulator, that’s an experience you might not have had before!
Our737 NG flight simulator is constructed using the cockpit section of a real aircraft which was in service for over 30 years, the flight deck features many original Boeing parts such as the control columns and throttle which add to the incredible realism of this unforgettable experience.
You can take a virtual flying lesson on a typical training aircraft with a qualified pilot, or for the budding aerobatic pilots and thrill seekers out there we have a challenge that you might like! Fly the Red Bull Extra 300 in a race to from JFK Airport to the Statue of liberty and then under the Brooklyn Bridge! Flying Challenges for all kinds of groups of adults and children for a really different day out! We have great packages for corporate teambuilding, social club outings and special needs groups to stags and hens and family occasions like kids birthdays, communions and confirmations.. There’s a flight experience for everyone!
Aviation Education Centre
The only one of its kind in Ireland the centre is a unique place for adults and kids to learn about the world of flight in a pure aviation environment. Post Primary Aviation Field Tips and Primary School tours are ‘hands on minds on’ with talks from Pilots Air Traffic Controllers and Engineers. We provide courses for Cubs and Scouts to complete their Air Badge requirements. Ace Aviation Camp runs at school mid term and summer and is a great combination of fun and discovery designed to inspire the next generation of Aviators! Of course all education programmes include plenty of flying practice to put that theory to test!
