Artists’ and Architects’ Talks at Limerick City Gallery of Art

  • Limerick City Gallery of Art

Architects and artists will come together at Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA) next week to participate in two free public talks centring on the interpretation of the world around us through art.

Artist Niamh McCann, who has exhibited extensively in Europe, Ireland and in the USA employing a variety of working methods from drawing to sculpture, will be joined on Thursday 10 March at 6pm by Limerick architects Jack Byrne, Séamus Bairead and Gráinne Hassett (SAUL).

The roundtable conversation will be moderated by Dr. Niamh NicGabhann, Course Director of Festive Arts, UL. The major installation element of Just Left of Copernicus  (A Prologue) in the Carnegie Gallery titled Section of “Copernicus for Now’ (B10-B22) is the result of the collaboration between, McCann, Bairead and Byrne and produced at Fablab, Limerick

The second talk will take the form of an "in conversation" between artist, Sean Lynch and architect, Seán Ó Laoire (co-founder of Murray Ó Laoire Architects, 1979-2010) on Saturday 12 March at 3pm.

Lynch's latest artwork  Adventure: Capital was commissioned for Ireland at Venice 2015 and was viewed by more than 400,000 people during the world's most prestigious visual arts exhibition. The sculptural installation is the Askeaton-based artist's most ambitious project to date and traces a journey that unravels notions of value and the flow of capital.  Alongside Adventure: Capital, Lynch also presents a selection of previous artworks with particular reference to Limerick and the surrounding area.

Admission to both events is FREE and all are welcome.
