Forms to be included on the Supplement to the Register of Electors

To apply for supplement: 

Please note that the application must reach Limerick City and County Council before the fourteenth day (Sundays, public holidays and Good Friday excluded) before polling day

To apply by a person already registered who becomes an irish citizen:

Under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2015 there is an additional category of applicant for the supplement to the register of electors. This category relates to a person already registered who becomes an Irish citizen. 

It is important, therefore, to note the following:-

  • There is no provision in electoral law for changing a person’s details on the register in advance of an election other than by way of the supplement;
  • There is no provision in electoral law for changing a person’s details on the register on polling day;
  • It is important that any person who has become an Irish citizen, and who is already in the register as a local or European elector, who wishes to vote in the referendum should apply to have their details changed in the register by way of an application for entry in the supplement to the register.

RFA5 form must be signed in the applicant’s local Garda Station in the presence of a member of the Garda Siochana. The Garda will have to be satisfied of the applicant’s identity and citizenship and then sign and date stamp the form. The application form should then be forwarded directly to the Franchise Department, Limerick City and County Council, Merchant’s Quay, Limerick.

Postal Voting

Persons unable to vote in person because of the circumstances of their detention in prison pursuant to an order of a court:

Electors living at home who have a physical illness or disability which prevents them from going to a polling station to vote:

Electors whose work circumstances are such as to make it likely that they will be unable to go to a polling station to vote or students attending an educational institution in the State on a full-time basis who are living away from their address of registration and are likely to be unable to attend their designated polling station to vote: 

Special Voting applies to electors living in a hospital or nursing home who have a physical illness or disability which prevents them from going to a polling station:
