Rural Water Programme

The Rural Water Programme was devolved from the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government to Local Authorities in 1997.

The strategic objective of the Rural Water Programme is to improve the quality, reliability and efficiency of water services for domestic supplies where Irish Water services are not available, through various measures. As part of this programme, Limerick City & County Council’s Laboratory Services carries out sample analytics for Public and Private Group Water Schemes, as well as water quality testing for private wells.

Grant aid is available to communities to assist them in providing or upgrading existing water services infrastructure in their locality.
