N20 O’ Rourke’s Cross Road Improvement Scheme Compulsory Purchase Order 2020.

A new roundabout controlled junction is planned for O’Rourke’s Cross. The proposed road improvements comprise a new roundabout at O’Rourke’s Cross, the junction of the N20 with the R518. It includes alteration to the present junction layout, the construction of new N20 approaches to the junction, alteration of the existing R518 approaches to the junction, a new combined cycleway/ footway, relocation of the bus stops, road and drainage impact attenuation, fencing, landscaping, public lighting, accommodation works and associated site works.

Limerick City and County Council made the Compulsory Purchase Order to acquire land and extinguish rights of way necessary to develop the N20 O’Rourke’s Cross Road Improvement Scheme.

An Bord Pleanála has on the 23rd day of April 2021 made an order confirming the N20 O’Rourke’s Cross Road Improvement Scheme Compulsory Purchase Order 2020.

A judicial review application was made to the High Court to challenge the decision of An Bord Pleanála in this case. At this point there is a stay granted on the operation and/or implementation of the compulsory purchase order and on taking any further steps on foot of such confirmation of the compulsory purchase order, pending the determination of the substantive issues to be tried.
