The Seveso II Directive is aimed at preventing major accidents involving dangerous substances and limiting the consequences in the event of such a major accident.

A Major Emergency is any event which, usually with little or no warning, causes or threatens injury or death, serious disruption of essential services or damage to property, the environment or infrastructure beyond the normal capabilities of the principal emergency services.
In response to the ongoing flooding incidents, Limerick City and County Council is working closely with the Department of Social Protection and the Health Service Executive to ensure that families in need of assistance are being supported in what is a very difficult time for them.
Limerick City and County Council is part of the Mid-West Region (Limerick, Clare and Tipperary) for Major Emergency Management.
