Segregation, Storage and Presentation of Household and Commercial Waste Bye Laws

At its Meeting held on the 28th January 2019, Limerick City and County Council adopted the City and County of Limerick (Segregation, Storage and Presentation of Household and Commercial Waste) Bye-Laws 2019. These Bye-Laws will come into force on the 1st March 2019 and can be viewed by clicking the link in the documents section below.

Please Note: Household waste must be presented for collection in a wheeled bin.

However, there are a limited number of areas for which a derogation from this requirement is provided. The list, which will be subject to a review on 31st December 2023 is available to view below. 

If your address is not included, you will be required to present your waste in a wheeled bin.

Please note: waste service providers are required to provide food waste bins for agglomerates > 500 households, which includes the following towns in County Limerick:

Bruff Limerick City and suburbs
Bruree Murroe

Drumcollogher  

*In November 2017, the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment (DCCAE) launched a single, standard national list of items and materials that can be placed in the recycle bin. The list of suitable material is now simply paper, cardboard, rigid plastics, tins and cans and more details can be found here.
