Culture Night 2020 will take place this year on Friday 18th September, so it’s time to start planning our events and activities for the Limerick region! Limerick Culture & Arts Office is doing a public call out for participants.
Culture Night is always great fun and offers the perfect opportunity for us as a region to showcase the wealth of culture that Limerick has to offer. It is a night to celebrate the cultural, artistic and creative communities of our city and county by inviting existing and new audiences to view our galleries, museums, workshops and studios.
In light of the Covid-19 outbreak and the resulting restrictions it is necessary that we make some changes to Culture Night for 2020, as a result we will have a programme that is a mixture of both live and digital events. This year’s event will be smaller in scale with a hybrid programme of digital and physical events.
Never has it been more important for an event like Culture Night to take place as it presents the opportunity for our creative community to work in partnership to nurture the cultural life of our region and support our audiences as they adjust to a new social and cultural environment within their communities.
In planning digital or online events we ask you to consider this an opportunity to reach much larger audiences than would be able to attend a live event at present and also to reach audiences who would normally be excluded from attending a live event, for example those with very young children, housebound disabled and carers, the elderly etc.
In the case of those wishing to host physical events, all live events will need to implement pre-booking and ticketing to manage audience numbers in line with national COVID 19 regulations and guidelines. Larger outdoor event holders will also need to consult with their local garda station.
Events should be free of charge to ensure access for everybody but it is permissible to collect donations.
If you are part of a club, organisation or group who would like to organise a Culture Night event, Limerick Culture & Arts Office will be there to support your involvement in this national initiative.
We will do this by listing and promoting your event on the National Culture Night website and on Limerick.ie. We have been awarded some funding for the support of the delivery of events and you may be eligible. By submitting your event information early and completing our Expression of Interest form we will be able to take your proposal into consideration. We also offer participants free Culture Night merchandise - balloons, badges, t-shirts - to use and distribute on the night at the events organised.
