Have you ever been to an exciting conference and thought, this would be great if it came to Limerick?

Did you know that the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau is here to make that a realisation. This session is about getting to know what supports are available at every stage of the conference and events process, from bidding to bring a conference to delivery.  You will meet with the Conference and Sports Bureau Staff who provide a free service to those hoping to run conferences and events in the Mid West Region and discuss what supports suit you best.

Sheila Deegan, Deputy Director, Limerick 2020 Bid Team, Limerick City and County Council. The cultural sector can contribute to the development of Limerick through dynamic connectivity which in turn provides the sector with the opportunity to recognize its potential within a wider framework. Conferences are an opportunity for arts organisations to grow international networks, sustainable partnerships and capacity.

12.30   Fáilte Ireland, The Conference Ambassador Programme

Letitia Wade, Business Tourism Officer, Fáilte Ireland. The Conference Ambassador Programme encourages and supports both Irish and International businesses and associations to host their international meetings and conferences here in Ireland.  As part of this programme, a wide range of professional supports are made available to the ambassadors, including financial and practical assistance, with the bidding process and site inspections and also financial contribution towards the marketing/operations of the conference.

Speaker Biographies:

Sheila Deegan
Deputy Director, Limerick 2020 Bid Team. Sheila has been involved in the development of the arts and culture infrastructure of Limerick for many years, and as well as being Arts Officer was part of the team that gained and delivered the first National City of Culture : Limerick 2014. She is passionate about Limerick and all that the Arts and Culture can do in creating a civic society and the creative industries. She is an avid reader of all things literature.

Karen Brosnahan
General Manager of the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau. A Limerick native and graduate of the Kemmy School of Business in University of Limerick, Karen has an extensive background in business and sports tourism with over 20 years’ experience in the Tourism industry in Ireland and internationally.  Karen has managed the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau for over ten years.  The bureau has a partnership with Fáilte Ireland who work with the bureau helping to successfully deliver business in the conference and corporate sector for the Shannon region. 

Letitia Wade
Business Tourism Officer – Fáilte Ireland. Letitia has 15 years’ experience in tourism. Following a move from Leisure Tourism to the agency’s Business Tourism & Events Division, gaining experience in the Events Ireland team and the Business Tourism Unit, Letitia now heads up the International Conferences Team in Fáilte Irelands Business Tourism Unit. Tasked with growing Ireland’s share of the international association conferences sector, the teams remit is national, supporting conferences throughout Ireland, by supporting Conference Ambassadors from bid stage to event operations on the ground, and everything in between.
