The plastic bag levy was successful in encouraging us to change our behaviour and use reusable shopping bags.
Don't forget that the continued success of the levy is largely dependent on the cooperation of all the retail sector, so if you come across a shop not charging for bags, please let us know so we can follow up.
Remember to bring your own reusable shopping bag when shopping. Many paper bags, which are available in convenience stores, claim to be recyclable but are more in fact a waste of resources and ultimately end up in landfill sites.
Report establishments who do not itemise the levy on your receipt – current levy is 22 cents.
