Councillors have unanimously adopted the first-ever Limerick Development Plan 2022-2028 at a special meeting of the Council today.
It is the first combined plan for Limerick City and County, since the amalgamation of the two authorities and sets out a blueprint for the development of Limerick from a physical, economic, social and environmental perspective from now until 2028.
Shannon Airport and Ireland West Airport Knock, have today become the first airports in the world to be recognised as Age Friendly airports by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Both airports were officially launched as Age Friendly Airports, certified by the WHO, at a ceremony officiated by the Hildegarde Naughton, Minister of State at the Department of Transport.
Supported by Limerick City and County Council through the local Biodiversity Action Plan fund.
BirdWatch Ireland are undertaking a survey of Barn Owls in Limerick this summer and they are requesting the assistance of the public and landowners to report information on Barn Owls to help direct their survey efforts.
The latest is a series of Jobs Fairs aimed at residents in the Regeneration communities in Limerick is to take place this week. The Jobs Fair is taking place this Wednesday 15th June in King’s Island Community Centre from 6-8pm.
The exhibition marks the centenary of the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty on 6th December 1921.
Presented by the National Archives in partnership with Limerick City and County Council Archives Service, this touring exhibition opens up significant historical records, official documents and private papers for the first time, including the first public presentation of both the Irish and British copies of the Treaty document.
Limerick City and County Council is seeking expressions of interest from town or village community groups and/or business interests who may have suitable projects for consideration under the 2022 Town and Village Renewal Scheme. The Town and Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS) aims to assist with the rejuvenation of rural towns and villages throughout Ireland, making them more attractive places to live, work, and visit. Expressions of Interest are now being sought from suitable groups or organisations.
Tidy Towns groups across Limerick are being alerted that the competition’s adjudicators will be visiting towns and villages across the county during the month of June.
Initial judging will take place over the next few weeks, while the second round adjudications for the lucky few will happen in July.
A selection as items from the Ceramics Collection of Limerick School of Arts and Design TUS has been placed on display in the Mayor’s Office in Merchant’s Quay. In a partnership between Limerick Arts Office, Limerick City and County Council and LSAD, TUS, the Mayor has toured the campus and met with students before making his selection.

The Limerick Operatic Memorabilia Exhibition has opened in Limerick Museum as part of the Limerick Opera Festival. The exhibition features objects from the permanent collection of Limerick Museum and items on loan from private collectors.
