Newcastle West to become a Fairtrade Town

Newcastle West in County Limerick is to become a Fairtrade Town following agreement by all municipal district councillors. There was unanimous agreement in support of Newcastle West becoming a Fairtrade Town following a motion proposed by the Mayor of Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Michael Collins and seconded by Cllr John Sheahan.

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Michael Collins, has announced that the chief content editor of Forbes has responded positively to his invitation to take a closer look at Limerick and has committed to visiting the city when it’s safe to travel and convene.

Limerick City and County Council has issued a reminder to farmers ahead of this year’s silage making season. Farmers are being reminded to ensure that their silage base, associated effluent collection channels and silage effluent storage facilities are free from defect and are fit-for-purpose.

Waiving of Licence Fees and additional space for outdoor dining are part of plans by Limerick City and County Council to support businesses this summer

Limerick City and County Council is to waive fees for licences for outdoor dining and street events as part of a number of initiatives unveiled by the local authority to support businesses as they prepare to re-open this summer. The Council will also be installing buildouts which will increase footpath widths to allow for greater capacity for outside dining in the city and across the county.

Mural unveiled to legendary Limerick lady, Dodo Reddan

One of Limerick’s most colourful and memorable characters has been immortalised in a giant street mural unveiled in the heart of her hometown. Legendary Limerick lady, Dodo Reddan (1922-1995), whose real name was Hanora Quirke, was renowned for her two passions in life, her great love of dogs and rugby.

Two culture and arts funding streams open for applications

Limerick City and County Council is inviting members of creative and artistic community to apply for funding under two separate funding streams.

Applications are now being sought from individual artists or organisations for funding under the Grants Under the Arts Act and Creative Ireland Made in Limerick grants, funded by Creative Ireland. These are two separate application processes.

Main contract works begin on Coonagh to Knockalisheen Road project

Construction of the Coonagh to Knockalisheen Road has begun following the government’s go-ahead for the multi-million euro project. Limerick City and County Council appointed Roadbridge for the contract following a competitive tendering process for the project costing around €29 million.

ENGINE Shorts film scheme is seeking expressions of interest from local producers and directors who would like to join the 15 shortlisted projects. This new ambitious training and production scheme for emerging film talent in the mid-west region is run by Innovate Limerick through Film in Limerick and aims to inspire and support up-and-coming writers, directors and producers to create inspiring, engaging world-class short films that resonate with a wide international audience.
