Major Transformational Projects Proposed for Limerick

Limerick City and County Council has announced a major transformational development proposal across three key sites in Limerick City in an investment in the region of €400m, including a new state-of-the-art medical facility and the creation of over 200 construction jobs across the sites.

Clarification on Limerick’s parklets

As part of initiatives to guide Limerick through Covid-19, Limerick City and County Council provided two parklet plazas for use by the people of Limerick, one on O’Connell Street and the other on Catherine Street. They have been well received and are a hugely welcome and successful addition to the streetscape of the city. Indeed, they are constantly in use, even during the cold winter weather.

The leaders of the +CityxChange project in Limerick are running an Open Call to the public, looking for innovative ideas to improve how homes, businesses and residents use energy. The overall project is working to develop areas of 'positive energy' in Limerick city which produce more energy than they consume.

Limerick’s Odyssey Studios hoping for glory at National Enterprise Awards

One of Limerick’s most impressive businesses, Odyssey Studios, have been announced as a finalist for this year’s National Enterprise Awards. The awards, an initiative of the Local Enterprise Office, will take place virtually on Thursday 11th February. Odyssey Studios will compete against 29 other national finalists for a prize fund totaling €50,000.

Mayor congratulates Limerick sports stars for hat-trick at RTÉ Sports Awards

The Mayor of Limerick City and County, Cllr Michael Collins has congratulated Limerick’s All Ireland Senior Hurling Team, Manager John Kiely and Junior World Mountain Bike champion Oisin O’Callaghan after a hat-trick of wins at last night’s RTÉ Sports Awards. The Limerick Senior Hurlers were crowned Team of the Year after their League, Munster and All Ireland wins in 2020.

Future of one of Limerick’s most well-known cultural homes is secured as Limerick City and County Council purchases 9-10 Patrick Street – ‘Ormston House’

The future of one of Limerick’s most recognisable homes for cultural activities, Ormston House, has been secured with the announcement that Limerick City and County Council has purchased 9-10 Patrick Street, Limerick. The purchase comprises of the ground floor and basement and has been made possible with funding from Limerick City and County Council and the JP McManus Benevolent Fund.

Mayor of Limerick City and County calls for ‘urgent clarification’ on delivery and completion of Coonagh-Knockalisheen Road

The Mayor of Limerick City and County, Cllr Michael Collins has called for ‘urgent clarification’ from Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan TD on the future delivery of the Coonagh-Knockalisheen Road in Limerick. Mayor Collins said the local community in Moyross is ‘frustrated and angry’ at the impasse over the future of the project which is a key part of the Limerick Regeneration Framework implementation plan.

Welcome for key step in move to Directly Elected Mayor

The Mayor of the Limerick City and County, Cllr Michael Collins, has welcomed the approval by Government for the drafting of legislation for the new role of Ireland’s first directly elected mayor with executive powers. The election for the post of Directly Elected Mayor is expected to take place before the end of 2021, with the first term running until the local elections of 2029.

Council responds to latest Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) survey

Limerick City and County Council continues to engage and respond to the latest Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) report. Although the council is disappointed not to have re-established its ‘Clean to European Norms’ standard in the city, overall it was a more positive report for the city than mid-year of 2019.
