Flood prevention measures continue across parts of Limerick

Staff of Limerick City and County Council are continuing to monitor flood levels in parts of County Limerick along the Lower River Shannon. Flood defences erected in Castleconnell, Montpelier, Annacotty and Mountshannon Road are continuing to hold as water levels begin to level off.

Welcome for landmark Limerick day as Opera Site planning permission granted

Limerick City and County Council has today said that the granting of planning permission by an An Bord Pleanála for the Opera Site will prove one of the key pivotal moments in the great success story that Limerick has become. Welcoming the decision, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Michael Sheahan said that the long wait for delivery on one of the single most iconic and important developments undertaken in the city in recent generations is finally and officially at an end.

Round the clock flooding response to continue in Limerick as Storm Jorge approaches

Limerick City and County Council will continue their round-the-clock flooding response in parts of County Limerick impacted by the River Shannon flooding. Council staff, along with Defence Forces personnel and volunteers with Limerick Civil Defence are monitoring the situation and will continue to do so over the weekend.

Compulsory Purchase Orders made for N20 O’Rourke’s Cross Road Improvement Scheme

Limerick City and County Council has made the Compulsory Purchase Order to acquire land and extinguish rights of way necessary to develop the N20 O’Rourke’s Cross Road Improvement Scheme. The orders are about to be submitted to An Bord Pleanála for confirmation. The Part VIII planning for the road scheme was already approved at the Municipal District meeting of Cappamore/Kilmallock.

Olympics-bound Irish hockey star Róisín Upton named Limerick Person of the Year 2019

A Limerick woman who played a pivotal role in securing a first ever Olympics appearance for the Irish Women’s Hockey team has been named Limerick Person of the Year for 2019. Róisín Upton from Raheen, Limerick showed nerves of steel and ice cool precision as she scored one of the goals in the sudden death shoot out last November to see Ireland through to the finals in Tokyo this summer.

Further high levels of water expected on River Shannon

Staff with Limerick City and County Council will continue their round-the-clock monitoring of water levels along the River Shannon catchment area as the threat of flooding continues. Lands are already under water in Montpelier, Castleconnell, Annacotty, and the Mountshannon area of Lisnagry with forecasters predicting higher water levels in the next few days.

Applications open for fund to help Limerick’s social enterprises

Applications are now open for a fund which can help social enterprises in Limerick to tackle important social issues through entrepreneurship and trading. The Social Innovation Fund Ireland (SIFI) has an open call out for projects at present under its Social Enterprise Development Fund strand.

Limerick City and County Council monitoring water levels on the River Shannon

Staff from Limerick City and County Council are closely monitoring water levels along the River Shannon as indications are that water levels will continue to rise. Some lands along the river have already been flooded with Montpelier, Castleconnell, Annacotty, and the Mountshannon area of Lisnagry the areas most likely to experience flooding over the next few days.

N/M20 Cork To Limerick Road Improvement Scheme Update

The Cork to Limerick scheme will be developed within the broad N20 corridor via Charleville and Mallow. Elected Representatives from the region were informed of this decision and updated on progress on the Cork to Limerick scheme at a briefing held today (February 19th) in Charleville.
