The 2019 Squirrel and Pine Marten survey needs your help! The invasive grey squirrel was introduced to Co. Longford in 1911, and over the following decades spread throughout most of the eastern half of Ireland.

A new central hub to highlight all things food in Limerick has been launched. LimerickFood.ie is a new website based on the Food Strategy for Limerick 2016–2018 and aims to promote and develop Limerick’s food and drink industry by showcasing the wealth of high quality, tasty food and drink on offer across Limerick city and county.

Limerick City and County Council has served the owners of the Horizon Mall with an order to demolish the partially built structure at the Parkway Valley site on the Dublin Road. Using its powers under the Derelict Sites Act 1990, the Council is ordering the owners, Novelty ICAV, to raze the building to the ground, with work to be completed within six months.

Limerick City and County Council, the Land Development Agency (LDA), CIÉ and other stakeholders have today announced plans to explore how a strategic land bank in excess of 50 hectares under state ownership can be re-imagined and re-developed to create a new 21st Century urban neighbourhood at Limerick’s city centre train and bus station, Colbert Station.

Limerick City and County Council undertook an operation to recover a halting site bay in Clonlong Halting Site, Galvone, Limerick, which had been occupied illegally. Following a Circuit Court ruling, Limerick City and County Council organised a multi-agency operation, which involved the hiring of a specialist bailiff company to assist in the recovery.

Limerick City and County Council has lodged an objection to the EPA licence granted to Irish Cement to allow the co-incineration of waste at the Mungret plant (POO29-06). Prior to the proposed determination of the licence, Limerick City and County Council had made a detailed submission on the licence application on 20 September 2018.

October is Ireland’s National Reuse Month and to mark it a new exhibition called Let’s Think About Consumption has been opened in the Parkway Shopping Centre in Limerick. Let’s Think About Consumption challenges us to think about what we consume, bring us beyond the idea of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’, to a more conscious prevention of waste in the first place.

Limerick City and County Council has been informed that there is a person contacting businesses around Limerick, falsely claiming to be an employee/ agent of the Council, and asking people to sponsor an ad in a new booklet that the council is producing.

Limerick City and County Council Chief Executive Dr Pat Daly, and Trondheim Municipality Chief Executive Morten Wolden took part in the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels (7-10 October 2019), where they highlighted the key challenges and solutions put forward by the Horizon2020 project +CityxChange (Positive City Exchange).

Limerick City and County Council has welcomed the announcement that Analog Devices has transferred ownership of the two pitches which were once used by the multinationals Sports & Social Club to the Council for the benefit of the community of Mungret, Raheen and Doordoyle.

Limerick City and County Council and the family of Dolores O’Riordan are pleased to announce the establishment of a Music Bursary in memory of the Cranberries singer. Dolores O’Riordan died suddenly in London on 15 January 2018, sending waves of sadness across Limerick and around the world.

There were jubilant celebrations at the Limerick Going For Gold grand final this evening (Tuesday 08 October 2019) as the South Limerick village of Ardpatrick was named as overall winners of the Limerick Going For Gold competition for 2019.
