Minister visits ENGINE and sees how innovation will be driven in Limerick

The Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys has seen at first hand the work that is being carried out in ENGINE as part of her visit to Limerick.

ENGINE is a new innovation space for entrepreneurs and companies who are focused on technology and innovation.

ENGINE has been established to drive innovation forward, by providing individuals and companies with facilities to match their ambitions and needs.

The layout of ENGINE is one which encourages cross-collaboration, creativity and innovation.

Minister Humphreys was given a guided tour of ENGINE on Upper Cecil Street in the heart of Limerick city centre and met with some of the people who are working there including Innovate Limerick, Mid West Action Plan for Jobs, and WP Engine.

Minister Humphreys said: “The purpose of the visit to ENGINE was to see the work being carried out here. I’m delighted to have seen first-hand the work being done by Innovate Limerick. This unique special purpose innovation company is a leading example to the rest of the country on how open communication, collaboration and a strong local authority can deliver impactful regional change.”

Mike Cantwell, Head of Innovate Limerick said: “It was great to welcome Minister Humphreys to ENGINE today to showcase our co-work, scaling, training and hot- desk facilities. The work of Innovate Limerick spans both Limerick city and county and acts as a catalyst to drive innovation across the region.”

The Minister also visited Troy Studios and to see the development of the film industry here and its local supports including training, apprenticeships and upskilling.
