Mayor welcomes recent jobs announcement in Limerick as a huge boost for the region

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr. James Collins has said that the announcement of 645 jobs in Limerick reflects a new era of prosperity in the Mid-West. His comments come as financial services company FundRock announced the opening of its new office in Limerick with the creation of 45 positions in the next year and a half.

The new office will be its second in Ireland and will serve as a centre of excellence and operational centre to support FundRock’s existing network of offices in Dublin, London and Luxembourg.

The FundRock announcement on Friday 5th April follows the earlier sod turning by Edwards Lifesciences at their new manufacturing facility at the National Technology Park in Castletroy which, when fully operational, will create 600 jobs.

Last year the US medical device giants said it would invest €80 million at a site at the Plassey National Technology Park, Castletroy but, in a further boost, it revealed it is investing a further €80 million in constructing the new larger plant.

Mayor Collins said it is an exciting time for the city, county and region. “I am absolutely delighted to welcome FundRock to Limerick. It is great news for the region and a sign of the Mid-West’s growing attractiveness to international companies.

“FundRock has an excellent reputation and a longstanding connection to the University of Limerick.  Their choice to locate here shows that Limerick is on the map with International Financial Services companies and I warmly welcome this new investment, particularly as it is bringing high quality jobs to the Mid-West."

Pat Daly, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Economic Development, Limerick City and County Council also welcomed the news. “Fundrock and Edward Lifesciences’ decision to locate in Limerick is proof the Mid-West is an increasingly attractive place to do business.

“We have much to offer for FDI and indigenous companies, not least an exceptionally skilled, educated, high-calibre workforce, competitive cost of living and doing business, the supply of high-quality office space coming on-stream and an international airport on our doorstep.”
