Mayor welcomes new services from Shannon Airport

  • Limerick City and County Council

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick is welcoming the announcement of two new routes from Shannon Airport.

Air Canada has announced a direct service between Shannon and Toronto, while Ryanair is expanding its route network by adding Barcelona – Reus to its range of services from the mid west airport.

Mayor Stephen Keary said: “This is great news for the Limerick city region, Shannon Airport and the greater region along the west coast of Ireland. The Toronto route will translate into more transatlantic services, which will help underpin the growth in tourism and the hugely successful ongoing campaign to attract inward investment.”

“The Barcelona service makes the city and the region much more attractive for local people looking to go on a city break or a sun holiday, while making Limerick and the west coast of Ireland much more accessible for inbound tourists.”

“Shannon International Airport is a huge asset to us in that regard as multi-national investment has stated time and time again. Routes in and out of an uncongested Shannon Airport benefit the business and tourism passenger greatly.”

“The decisions by Air Canada and Ryanair are fantastic votes of confidence in the mid west’s international airport. I’m calling on the people of Limerick and the wider region to choose Shannon when they are flying.”
