The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick has welcomed the announcement by Aer Lingus to begin flights to Paris and Barcelona next year.

Mayor Michael Sheahan said: “This is fantastic news for the Limerick City Region and the entire mid-west. Connectivity is hugely important for businesses and enhances Limerick’s attractiveness as a location for inward investment. The route to Paris Charles de Gaulle will give businesses and other travellers access to one of Europe’s biggest hubs.”

“Barcelona is one of Europe’s most visited cities and the gateway to many seaside tourist destinations along Costa Brava to the north and Costa Dorada to the south and I have no doubt it will prove a popular route.”

“The news comes not long after Laudamotion announced a new service to one of the great imperial cities of Europe – Vienna.”

“It is extremely important now that the businesses and people of Limerick and the greater mid-west region, and indeed further afield along the west coast and midlands, use the services and routes announced so that Shannon can continue to grow its passenger numbers and routes offered from the airport.”
