  • Limerick City and County Council

Mayor of Limerick City and County Cllr Francis Foley today paid tribute to former Fine Gael Councillor Seán Broderick following his passing.

Seán Broderick was a member of Limerick City and County Council from 1979 to 1985. He regained his seat in 1991 and served as Chairman of the Council in 1996/97. Seán retired from public life in 2004.

Seán was a great community man who put Abbeyfeale above all else. I knew him for many years through his council work, his love for all things local and his involvement in the church. Seán’s political career spanned several decades and he served as Cathaoirleach of the council from 1996 to 1997. He will be sorely missed by those that knew him and I wish to offer my condolences to his daughters Marie Therese and Siobhán, his sister Ita and extended family” added Mayor Foley

Chief Executive of Limerick City and County Council Dr. Pat Daly added “Seán’s time in Limerick County Council spanned a number of decades. His knowledge of West Limerick as a business man and his work in Abbeyfeale gave him a unique perspective on Council matters. He was always a popular figure who was elected to the role of Cathaoirleach of the Limerick County Council in 1996 and 1997. Limerick changed many times in those years, but Seán’s dedication to his role ensures he will be remembered as a true local government leader. Ar dheis de go raibh an anam dhilis”

Seán, husband of the late Vera, is survived by daughters Marie Therese and Siobhán, sister Ita, sons-in-law Diarmuid and Andy, grandchildren Muireann, Cathal, Róisín, Gearóid and Niamh, sister-in-law Gemma, nephews, niece, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.
