Limerick Museum and Limerick City Gallery of Art to close.

Limerick’s Library branches will close to members of the public this evening due to the government’s announcement that the whole country is moving to Covid Level 3.

This means that the libraries as well as Limerick Museum and Limerick City Gallery of Art must close to members of the public until 28 October at the earliest. Any re-opening date is subject to a change of Covid Levels by the government.

However, a ‘Call & Collect’ service will be in operation while all online services remain open for members of the public.

The ‘Call & Collect’ service will operate at the following library branches:

Limerick Libraries' hugely popular online service providing free access to eBooks, newspapers, magazines, local history, language learning, courses and online story time will continue to be provided.

Covid Level 3 also means that Limerick Museum and Limerick City Gallery of Art will close. This will take effect from closing time this evening (Tuesday 06 Oct) until at least the 28 Oct, when the three week period for Level 3 ends.

Meanwhile the Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Michael Collins has again called on the people of Limerick to continue their efforts to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Mayor Michael Collins said: “I’m appealing again to the people of Limerick to continue their excellent fight against the virus. Limerick people have made huge sacrifices during the last number of months and I am appealing to them to make one more effort to help reduce the number of cases.”

“I know it can be very hard to limit our social contacts, but we must do so for the good of our family and friends, many of whom may be more susceptible to getting the virus.”

“We may feel fine ourselves but we must following the guidelines and restrictions for our grandparents, parents, or friends who may be ill or are at higher risk of contracting the virus.”

“We must all play our part in halting the spread of the virus.”
