Limerick City and County Council has secured funding of €543,967 under CLÁR 2023 to develop a number of Community and Sports Clubs projects.

Earlier this month, Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD announced funding of nearly €6.2 million nationwide, with Limerick receiving €280,541 for community facilities.

This followed the announcement in December of €4.7 million to support over 100 sports clubs in rural Ireland as part of Our Rural Future, the Government’s strategic five-year rural development plan. Limerick received €263,426 with seven sports clubs benefiting from this new fund.

Welcoming the announcement, Mayor of City and County of Limerick, Gerald Mitchell commented: “The funding of these projects is very welcome as it helps to deliver and maintain services and facilities that are directly improving quality of life in communities in County Limerick. This is fundamental to maintaining these rural towns and villages as desirable locations, helping to combat rural decline.”

Stephane Duclot, Director of Rural, Community and Culture Development said:

“The funding being provided under the CLÁR 2023 programme will support rural communities in the designated area of CLÁR – rural areas affected by depopulation - to develop high quality amenities for the public to use and enjoy. The investment of funding from schemes such as CLÁR mean that the rural communities in our county will continue to thrive, making a difference to all that live in them or visit the areas.”
